Hidden Falls Pedestrian Bridges – Placer County, CA

Two bridges were proposed for the Hidden Falls Regional Park in Auburn. The bridge abutments were originally designed as KeystoneTM Blocks founded in soil/rock. However, the contractor contacted H&K to value engineer a new foundation system. H&K determined that larger block, such as UltrablockTM, would provide a stronger foundation and require less handling. H&K designed a new foundation that could be founded in soil or rock. Rock dowels were used in the rock that was inclined at slope gradients between 2:1, horizontal:vertical,
and steeper.
