Holdrege & Kull provided the geotechnical engineering design of an anchor bolt tie back wall with rock fall netting and geotextile fabric to support the vertical slope of the excavation required for this project. Awarded to Viking Construction, the project entailed the widening of Hwy. 50 over Weber Creek, including a seismic retrofit of the existing bridge. Two of the new footings for the bridge required 30-foot-deep excavations in an existing adjacent fill. H&K’s shoring design facilitated the excavation. Anchor bolts for the tie back wall were loaded to 33 kips and locked off at 30 kips.
