Hwy. 84 Widening – Livermore, CA

The original shoring design for this highway widening project was to have been a soil nail/shotcrete wall. However, upon realizing that a 24-inch high-pressure gas main was positioned behind the 20-foot cut slope, the original drilling contractor resigned from the task.

Holdrege & Kull was brought in to develop an alternative shoring design that would accommodate the gas main. The result was a 1:1, horizontal: vertical slope to depths below the gas main, and a Manta Ray anchor system with rock fall netting to support the remainder of the vertical temporary cut slope
