SR-89 Mousehole – Truckee, CA

The double-track State Route 89 “Mousehole,” originally an early 1900s rock and stone arched opening, allows traffic to pass beneath the historic Central Pacific Railroad. On behalf of HDR Engineering, Inc. and the Town of Truckee, H&K characterized environmental conditions and prepared a soil management plan to address contamination during construction of a pedestrian tunnel through the railroad embankment immediately east of the Mousehole. The new tunnel is to be constructed by boring and jacking of precast concrete tunnel segments, and a Class I multi-use pathway (MUP) is to be constructed through the new tunnel.
